Michael Coburn began piano lessons at the age of six. He obtained his A.R.C.T. from the Royal Conservatory of Music in 2002 and in 2006 received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Calgary where he concentrated on piano performance and conducting. At the University, Michael had the opportunity to work with internationally acclaimed artists such as Paul Badura-Skoda and Emanuel Krasovsky. In 2004 and 2005 he attended the Académie Musicale Internationale “Barbara Krakauer” in Vaison-la-Romaine, France, and in 2006 was featured as a soloist with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.
Michael currently enjoys working as a collaborative pianist with ensembles and soloists, teaching piano and theory, and adjudicating music festivals. He is currently the Director of Music at Parkdale United Church and the Piano Faculty Director at Chinook School of Music.
